A MIRACULOUS pensioner from Dumbarton is believed to be the oldest person in Britain to have survived a life-threatening operation.
War veteran Jimmy Gillies is now 95-years-old and believes that the fabulous doctors who performed a triple heart bypass on him three years ago "saved his life".
The great grandfather told the Reporter this week that he was "on his way out" before getting the intricate surgery at the Western Infirmary, in Glasgow, and now feels like a new man.
The Silverton resident said: "The consultant told me that the oldest person to survive the operation was ninety and I was ninety-two at the time.
"I have a pigs valve in my body and it's made a big difference to me.
"So I could be in the Guinness Book of Records, but I never bothered writing to them to find out if I was eligible."
