A RARE piece of footballing history from the Vale has turned up in a house in Canada.
Alexandria man Andy Miller, who now lives in the city of Barrie, in Ontario, was having a clear out when he came across his dad William's old medal from the 1917-1918 season.
The memorabilia is from William's days with Jamestown Thistle and is believed to be a medal received for winning the A A Allan Cup.
The fascinating find, which has the famous Dumbarton town crest on the front, has spurred 77-year-old Andy on to find out more about the background of the successful squad, which his dad was part of.
The Miller family grew up in Alexandria, but in 1966 Andy and his wife, Margaret, who is also from Alexandria, moved across the pond for work.
Margaret was a music teacher in schools across West Dunbartonshire and was also the organist in St Kessog's Church, in Balloch.
The couple, who have two children, still have lots of friends in the area and have been back to visit on a number of occasions, the most recent being three years ago.
If anyone can provide more information about the medal then contact the Reporter on 01389 763335 or email chutton@dumbartonreporter.co.uk.
