Saving lives on the frontline

AN Army medic is performing heroics in Afghanistan's dangerous Helmand Province - treating the war wounded.

Captain Jake Wade, who grew up in Dumbarton, is three months into his tour of the war-torn country where he is serving as the Regimental Medical Liaison Officer for Battle Group (North West).

Based at the Musa Qala District Centre, the 44-year-old is having to deal with horrendous injuries on a daily basis as he helps British soldiers and Afghan citizens get back to full health.

The former Vale of Leven Academy pupil said: "My job is to provide administrative support for the Regimental Aid Post and in a mass casualty situation ensures that all the medical assets are deployed efficiently.

"As with all service personnel on tour there is very much an 'all hands to the pump' attitude, so if there is a situation I am normally in the thick of it."
