ENGAGED: Kevin popped the question to Jacqueline

TWO special couples received the perfect Valentine's Day gift on Sunday - with one man popping the question live on the radio.

Alexandria husband and wife John and Janne Barras, and Kevin McKinlay and Jacqueline Campbell, from Haldane, were greeted with a romantic visit after winning a radio competition.

The YOUR Radio's 'stupid cupids' hand-delivered a bouquet of red roses to Janne and Jacqueline after their other halves nominated them for the special delivery.

All John, 66, and Kevin, 31, had to do was tell the Reporter's sister station, YOUR Radio, why their partner deserved the heart-felt gift.

John, dad of Andrew, 22, and Simon, 21, nominated his "wonderful" wife of 24-years following a string of heartaches for the family.

He said: "My son Andrew has been in hospital and very ill since October - during this time he has spent nine weeks on life support in the Intensive Care Unit at Royal Alexandria Hospital.

"Janne has never missed an opportunity to be at his bedside and to comfort him and all the family."

Meanwhile, Jacqueline Campbell was swept off her feet live on air when her partner of 16 years bent down on one knee and popped the question on Valentine's Day.

To Kevin's joy, Jacqueline, 35, said "yes" and the happy couple, who have daughters Chelsea, 14, and Lauren, nine, have already started thinking about their wedding arrangements.

Kevin told the Reporter: "She was really shocked when they turned up at the door with all their radio equipment and she was speechless."

Dave Ross, YOUR Radio programme controller, said: "We had hundreds of nominations and it was very difficult to choose, but we have two winners with very different stories to tell and both were equally deserved."
