TWO friends were shocked to find out they had both been voted Citizen of the Year for their respective communities.

Voluntary workers Jim Murray and Georgie Duncan were on the phone to each other organising a lunch with fellow former J&B employees when they realised the other had also been notified by Provost Denis Agnew of their respective awards.

Georgie, from Dumbarton and Jim, from Bonhill, have worked tirelessly over the years helping others while taking great pleasure from it.

Georgie, 74, has worked with the WRVS and in recent years has helped organise the successful Beanfeast cafe in Dumbarton Sheriff Court, which has raised a fantastic £64,000 for CHAS between 2002 to 2009.

Jim, 71, is the chairman and co-founder of the Bonhill Senior Citizens Group and while working hard arranging events for the group has also been an integral part of other community groups in the area.

Provost Denis Agnew, who will host a reception for the winning pair in the coming weeks, was delighted the public had voted for such worthy winners.

He added: "I am delighted we have the Citizen of the Year awards nominated by the public.

"It is great for the community to have people that are so dedicated to helping others - Jim and Georgie truly deserve the recognition for their efforts."
