Letter campaign against nightclub

SITE: Dumbarton High Street
PLANS to open a new nightclub in Dumbarton town centre have been met with opposition amid fears over anti-social behaviour.
Anonymous letters have been posted through shop doors on the High Street highlighting possible areas of concern and urging people to object to the development.
The letter reads: "Concern has to be considered to the amount of residue from drunken revellers urinating and vomiting and the general after-effects of such a development.
"Concern over vandalism, the smashing of windows, which could be what is encountered by shop owners as they arrive for business the morning after a nightclub closes.
"There are places to site nightclubs in a town centre - pedestrian retail/shopping areas is not one of them."
The letter follows nightclub boss Mitch Sorbie's announcement that he plans to open a club in College Way, above the former Somerfield store.
Mr Sorbie, who has spent four years looking for a Dumbarton venue, has applied to West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) for planning permission, which is expected to go before the council in May.
The 48-year-old, who grew up in Alexandria, says he will work with the police, taxis and WDC's Licensing Board to ensure there is minimal disruption.
