A PENSIONER broke her wrist after she was thrown from her mobility scooter when it hit a pothole.

Dumbarton woman, Jackie Pollock, 64, was on her way back from the High Street on Thursday when the back wheels of the vehicle became stuck in the hole at Overburn Avenue, near Jewsons.

Jackie, who is also head of the United Campaign Group for the Vale of Leven Hospital, said that she was lucky to not be more seriously hurt after the accident.

She told the Reporter: "I came down the kerb to cross the road and when I got to the kerb on the other side the front wheels got up on the kerb and the back wheels went down a pothole and I flew off my scooter.

"I never knew how deep the hole was as there was a puddle filling it. Following the accident my scooter was in bits.

"I was so shocked at the time that I was more worried about my two bacon rolls and fudge doughnuts that I bought as I thought they had been squashed.

"The battery in my scooter fell out and if it had hit my leg I would've broke my leg.

Jackie added: "West Dunbartonshire Council has to repair the potholes now as it could happen to someone else. Luckily my injury wasn't too serious, but I'm in plaster for two weeks then, when I go back to the Vale for a check, I could be in plaster for another four weeks.

"Anyone walking that way could have fallen down the pothole and it's especially dangerous for women with prams."

A WDC spokeswoman said: "If the resident contacts the council with more information, we will arrange to have the area inspected and any defects in the road rectified. If the pothole is on a council road and the resident decides to take legal action, she can do this through the council's insurers."
