AS nervous secondary pupils received their exam results last week one anxious student discovered she had achieved SIX A grades.
Our Lady and St Patrick’s 5th year pupil Dominique Black, took on one extra Higher than most of the top achieving pupils her age and despite the extra work load, still managed As throughout.
She did have a slight advantage in one of her subjects, Higher French, as she has been speaking this language all her life as her mum is French.
Nevertheless, the Dumbarton 16-year-old also sat exams in English, Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Geography.
Modest Dominique said: “I got my results by text when I went round to a friend’s house.
“My friend did really well as well, and so did my other friends who got their results the next day.
“I text my mum, dad and wee sister straight away and everyone was really happy.
“I am really happy because it means I can choose what I want to do afterwards - I hoped for it, but I wasn’t expecting it.”
Dominique plans to do advanced Highers in sixth year as well as another Higher in Art.
David Stewart, Our Lady and St Patrick’s High School depute head, was delighted with this year’s results and was particularly impressed with the four students who achieved five As as well as Dominique.
They were Jonathan Begg, Ross Kerr, Caitlin O’Connor and James O’Hare.
He said: “These have been fantastic results for all these pupils and the school has done really well and we are proud of there results.
“Dominique’s is an outstanding performance - I can’t remember anyone who has had six As.”
