LEGENDARY Scotland striker Kenny Dalglish had budding young footballers at fever pitch when he paid a visit to Dumbarton over the weekend.

The former Liverpool and Celtic player shared his expertise with 300 youngsters and their families at the McDonald’s Football Open Day.

Kids and parents had the opportunity to meet a true football hero whilst picking up tips to help improve their game.

And young players from Argyle Athletic, Dumbarton United AFC and Renton Craigandro FC even got to have a kick around with one of the country’s best ever players.

Kenny told the Reporter: “It’s been fantastic to come to Dumbarton and see the enthusiasm for football in the community, and congratulations must go to the clubs, local council and the McDonald’s franchisee for putting on such a brilliant event.

“This event is the first under the new McDonald’s agreement with the Scottish FA and I’m looking forward to another four fantastic years of more football across Scotland.”

The event was made even more special for one lucky youngster, Aiden Cole, who was given the chance of a lifetime to walk side by side with some modern day football heroes at Hampden for the Spain match in October.

Aiden will be one of the mascots for the crucial Euro 2012 qualifier.

The event was made possible with the support of West Dunbartonshire Council and McDonald’s franchisee Steve Tomlin, who worked together to put on the event.
