THE tragic circumstances surrounding the death of former Sons captain Gordon ‘Guido’ Lennon are to be investigated.

A Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) is set to start on September 20 into the off-road accident which killed the much-loved defender in June 2009.

The 26-year-old died when the 4x4 vehicle he was a passenger in hit an electricity pylon on the Brahan Estate, near Dingwall in Easter Ross.

Despite surviving the initial crash, it is thought the 26-year-old was electrocuted as he escaped from the car.

The dad-of-one, who was away on a weekend break with fiancee Kelly and five-month-old son Kai at the time of the incident, was rushed to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, but died from his injuries.

Dumbarton fans were left shocked and devastated when the news of Guido’s death became known, not least because it was just weeks after he had triumphantly led the club to the Third Division title.

After Guido’s death, hundreds of grieving Sons fans turned out to pay their respects in an emotional farewell at Strathclyde Homes Stadium.
