Welder is UK's best apprentice
A DUMBARTON welder has been crowned the UK's best apprentice at a glizty awards bash.
David Crawford was given the prestigious honour of being handed the Fabrication - Best in Trade gong.
The award recognises excellence in the work place and academic study, as part of BAE Systems' UK Apprentice of the Year Awards in Manchester.
The hard working 20-year-old's win comes just a month after he was named Construction Apprentice of the Year at Skills Development Scotland's Modern Apprenticeship Awards.
In October 2009, David was also named as the UK's best trainee welder in the Shipweld competition, a nationwide welding event held in October 2009
He is currently looking at what career path he wants to take to develop himself further within the company.
David said: "I'm really pleased to be recognised in this way and win an award, especially as they cover the whole of the UK.
"It's a nice end to my apprenticeship and a great start to my career."
Nigel Whitehead, group managing director at BAE Systems, said: "Our 1,000 apprentices are critical in ensuring the company maintains a pool of engineering and business talent.
"Many of BAE Systems' senior managers started as apprentices and I'd thoroughly recommend the training programme as a career option.
"I congratulate all of our nominees and award winners, and wish them the best in their careers."
David finished his apprenticeship in August 2010 and currently works in the Ship Build and Outfit Hall at the company's Govan yard, where he works on the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carrier programme.
