House price boom
THE value of properties throughout Dumbarton and the Vale has rocketed.
According to official figures, the rise kicked in during the last three months of 2011.
Last week, the Registers of Scotland (ROS) published stats which showed that between October and December last year the average price residential homes in the area has risen to £121,966 - an increase of six per cent compared with 2010.
The sharp rise in property values was also unveiled to be the largest recorded increase throughout the country.
Stuart Barriskell, of SB Property in Dumbarton, said: "I think there's a bit of improvement just now as we come into what is historically a busy time.
"But it's quite a hard one to judge. If there has been any increase in property prices they have been marginal although it has been a bit busier though which is very encouraging.
"January historically used to be our busiest month of the year, it's hard to believe but it's busy just now with sales, rentals and properties coming on the market.
"Most agencies will say that as it's historically a time when because people have made up their minds, got Christmas and New Year out the road, and then decide what they'll do."
West Dunbartonshire also showed the largest rise in sales throughout the country with 28.6 per cent more sales taking place at the end of last year when compared with the previous year.
The total value of house sales throughout the area also showed the highest increase in Scotland as it rose by a whopping 36.3 per cent.
