TRAINING: Council leader Ronnie McColl and chief executive Joyce White with members of the Consultation Institute

MORE staff in West Dunbartonshire have been trained in consultation skills than in any other council in the UK, according to new figures.

Over the past four years, West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) has worked in partnership with the Consultation Institute to support and train over 140 staff and Community Planning Partnership colleagues in consultation policies and practices. Forty two members of staff achieved the Institute's Certificate of Professional Development, making it the top Council in the UK in terms of the numbers of staff from one organisation to gain the award.

Councillor Ronnie McColl, Leader of the Council said: "Making sure local people have faith in our consultation processes is very important, and through our work with the Consultation Institute we are confident our staff have the knowledge and expertise to deliver meaningful consultations."

Joyce White, WDC's Chief Executive, added: "We now have a pool of trained staff from across the Council and partners who can advise and assist departments on how to undertake successful public consultations and engagement events."
