ROBIN House Children's Hospice in Balloch is appealing for the public to spring into action and help out as volunteers.

The hospice, , run by Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS), currently supports 128 children with life-shortening conditions, has a shortage of 10 volunteers in housekeeping for evenings and weekends and five for the kitchen at weekends between10am-2pm.

The 15 new volunteers will undertake tasks including:

* Helping to prepare meals and setting the table for families, staff and volunteers to eat together

* Clearing away after meals including loading the dishwasher

* Vacuuming and generally keeping the house clean and tidy

* Ensuring that freshly-laundered and ironed sheets are always available for visiting families

Dolina Stewart, from Balloch, has been a housekeeping volunteer at Robin House for nearly a year. She said: "Everyone is friendly and it's a lovely place.

"You're made to feel really welcome and I've made many friends. Some days you're rushed off your feet but it never feels like a chore, you're part of a team that does everything possible to help make life just a little easier for families who are coping with very poorly kids."

Nicola Porciani, Voluntary Services Manager at Robin House, said: "We really need people that can commit to either helping out weekly or fortnightly and will enjoy being part of a vibrant and proactive team.

"We currently have 120 volunteers but need more to keep the house running year round. If anyone would like to find out more they can contact me on 01389 722 055 or email VSMRobinHouse@chas.org.uk"
