A CAR was torched last night in Bonhill as the spate of fires in the area continued.

Police are now appealing for witnesses following the incident which happened in the Braehead estate and believe that the answers lie within the community.

There was also another incident of fire raising elsewhere in Braehead at around 11.15pm with someone setting fire to rubbish which was lying at the back of home.

The incident resulted in minor damage to a window of the property but it is believed that the homeowner managed to extinguish the fire.

Last week, a terrified student has told how she is living in fear after the latest fire-raising attack to strike the community.

Rebecca Glendinning only discovered that her family home in O'Hare had become the target of an arson attack when firefighters appeared at her door.

The 20-year-old was awake when a crazed firebug crept into her garden and poured accelerant over a discarded fridge freezer.

The flames spread to a sofa and wooden decking, sending thick black smoke into the house in the terrifying incident at around 1.30am on Monday March 26.

"I think it's made my mind up to move away from the area again.

"My friend, who is a neighbour, is terrified to live here.

"All I can think about is where is the next fire going to come from."

The incident happened just yards away from the scene of a recent attack where neighbours had to be dragged from a horror inferno which ripped through their block of flats.

A 22-year-old male was arrested shortly afterwards.

The shell of derelict St Ronan's Church was also targeted last month, following a number of other incidents which saw cars torched throughout the Bonhill area.

And since September, more than 30 fires have been started maliciously across Braehead, Redburn and O'Hare.

Anyone with any information is being asked to contact Dumbarton Police Office on 01389 822000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
