Girls to take on tough charity trek
THESE two amazing Dumbarton youngsters are taking big steps to raise cash for people suffering from a terrible wasting disease.
Brucehill step-sisters Zoe Maxwell, seven, and Chloe-Louise Browning, eight, are staging a gruelling 11-mile sponsored hike from the Erskine Bridge to Balloch in honour of their aunt who has Huntington's Disease.
The brave Dalreoch Primary School kids are hoping to raise £1,000 for people blighted by the condition, a hereditary disorder in which neural cells degenerate.
The caring children came up with the idea just before their Easter Holidays and have been busy training.
They have also familiarised themselves, along with younger brother Anthony, with the cycle-path which follows their route.
Excited little Chloe told the Reporter: "I'm looking forward to it. I told my friends and they all said well done.
"So far the training has been easy. My feet didn't want to stop walking."
Zoe added: "I haven't told my friends about it yet but it should be fun."
After coming up with the idea Chloe and Zoe also came up with a unique name for their charity event calling it "We can walk so far" and after raising more than £100 in just a matter of weeks they are now hopeful of smashing their target.
Their beaming mum Linda Browning, 30, told the Reporter: "I was really, really proud. It was their own idea to raise the money for charity, so I thought instead of sweeping it away I would encourage it and get them doing something good.
"They are generous girls and they are thoughtful. If they go into their room and have a tidy up they come and ask us if they can give their old toys away to other children who don't have any. They are quite aware of the fact that there are people less fortunate than them.
"As Chloe's aunty has Huntington's Disease, we decided that the Scottish Huntington's Association would be a great cause to raise funds for.
"The name is what the girls decided on - meaning they can walk so far for their age."
Anyone wishing to make a donation ahead of the girls' walk, which is scheduled to take place on September 22, can get in touch via their facebook page on or www.justgiving.com/We-can-walk-so-far.
