Olympic Torch will pass through town
THE 2012 Olympic Torch will pass through Dumbarton this weekend in a once-in-a-generation visit to the area.
The Torch will arrive in the town on Saturday (June 9) as it travels from Glasgow to Inverness.
A convoy of supporting Olympic Torch vehicles and floats are also expected to travel with the Torch to add to the sense of occasion.
The torch will arrive on a convoy on the A82 at the Abbotsford Hotel in Dumbarton at approximately 9.20am.
It will then be carried along the A82 as far as the Barloan Toll roundabout, where it will join another convoy to take it to Luss Pier.
Councillor David McBride, convener for Housing, Environmental and Economic Development, said: "Saturday promises to be a fantastic family day out for local people that will really generate excitement about the forthcoming London Olympics.
"The Olympic Torch passing through our two biggest towns is an opportunity not to be missed. I hope as many local people as possible will get out there to cheer on the torchbearers. The Blue Peter event in Levengrove Park is another incentive for families to get out and about and join in the fun."

Immediately after the relay, families can head down to Dumbarton's Levengrove Park for the BBC Blue Peter Big Olympic Tour celebration. Developed by BBC Learning, the event is aimed at children aged 6 to twelve and their families and will be open from 10am until 4pm.
Entry to the event is free and tickets are not required. To find out more, visit www.bbc.co.uk/bluepeter
To complement the Blue Peter event, West Dunbartonshire Leisure has secured funding from 'Creative Scotland's Summer of Song' to host live musical performances on an adjacent stage in Levengrove Park. It is hoped that the local musicians, in partnership with YOUR Radio, will engage with the community through their performances and celebrate the values of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (peace, unity and friendship). Visitors for the Levengrove Park events are urged to walk or use public transport, as parking will be limited.
