Rents to go up for 40 per cent
HARD-up families will see their rents rocket by an inflation-busting 40 per cent in the next five years.
Tenants across Dumbarton, the Vale and Clydebank will be hit by the mammoth increases after councillors scrapped plans to hand over 5,000 homes to private housing associations.
But councillors insist the hikes are needed to fund a £95million programme of improvements to its properties.
A motion to retain all of West Dunbartonshire Council's 10,500 existing properties was rubber-stamped by the Labour-run authority last week.
