A DUMBARTON head teacher's years of service have been hailed at the Scottish Parliament.

Avril Davie - who this week retires from her post at Knoxland Primary - has seen thousands of pupils pass through the school over the past 24 years.

And as she prepares to step down, the 59-year-old's work has been praised in a motion laid down at Holyrood by Dumbarton and Vale MSP Jackie Baillie.

Jackie has invited fellow politicians to celebrate Avril's "dedication" to the youngsters whose lives she helped shape.
