The closures, which took effect from Sunday, are set to take place to allow the second part of the council’s flood prevention works to be carried out.

In November of last year, we revealed the council had approved a £3.5 million flood prevention scheme at Knowle Burn, close to council offices on Garshake Road.

Contractors have since been digging some 15,000 cubic metres of earth to create a huge storage pond, capable of holding enough water to fill six Olympic-sized swimming pools.

This will collect overspill water from the burn and protect drivers and nearby residents from flooding.

The latest phase of the works will see Round Riding Road closed to cars and diversions will be signposted in the area.

Bus routes will also be diverted and information related to this will be posted on affected bus stops.

During certain periods, vehicle access to homes on the road may be restricted and residents will be kept up-to-date on this.

Garshake Road will also be closed but it is expected this will only occur on a few individual days, most likely during the weekend — again diversions will be in place.

Dorothy Heron, secretary of Dumbarton East and Central Community Council said: “If that’s what it takes to put this in place and help the flood problems that have affected some in the area, then so be it.” The road will be closed until Monday, August 4.
