Dumbarton and Vale MSP Jackie Baillie was speaking with 15 youngsters including Dumbarton lad Craig Stirling at Scotrail’s Glasgow training academy.
The programme gives each apprentice with personal development training and the opportunity to achieve a Level 2 Scottish Vocational Qualification in Customer Service, as well as a Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s award.
The MSP said: “I was delighted to meet Craig and Aisling and the other young people who were accepted on the Scotrail apprenticeship programme.
“They are being offered a valuable opportunity to improve their skills and their employability in a company with a great reputation for customer service.” Craig, 19, a former Vale of Leven Academy pupil, added: “The railway offers a stable work environment and opportunities to progress, as long as you put the work and effort in.” The 18-month programme includes a mixture of classroom and workplace learning, with apprentices having the opportunity to apply for a full-time job with ScotRail upon successful completion.
