David Menzies sold punters bags of the class A drug for £20 and was caught red-handed with more than £1,500 worth of the drug after cops raided his girlfriend’s home on May 14 this year following a tip-off.

Last week the 36-year-old appeared in the dock at Dumbarton Sheriff Court and admitted his guilt.

Prosecutor Sarah Healing said police turned up at Menzies’ girlfriend’s flat after being passed confidential information and forced their way inside as Menzies and his girlfriend slept. Two polythene bags filled with brown powder — weighing 1.70g and 22.48g — were then found within a bedside cabinet.

Ms Healing said: “The accused immediately stated ‘That’s my smack — it’s nothing to do with Michelle’.” Cops also uncovered kitchen scales and two mobile phones during the course of their search.

Menzies was detained and taken to Clydebank Police Office where he was interviewed and admitted to being concerned in the supply of drugs and said that the heroin found belonged to him.

He also admitted to preparing and selling £20 bags of the drug which weighed 0.5g but declined to name anyone else who he knew was involved in the drug trade.

The court heard the 1.79g bag of heroin was worth about £70 while the 22.48g bag had the potential to reach £1,580.

Tom Brown, defending, said Menzies appreciated he would be sent to jail.
