Families from the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland’s (CHAS) hospice enjoyed a memorable welcome as the baton completed day 34 of its journey across Scotland.
The baton arrived at the Balloch-based hospice at 5.11pm and was welcomed by the CHAS Commonwealth Choir, which performed the Commonwealth anthem.
It then fell to service user, Sanjeev Mann, who accompanied the baton on a lap of honour around the hospice grounds. The 17-year-old said: “It has been an amazing day and it was nice to see everyone having fun. Today is a day I will never forget.
“Robin House is a really fun place and this has been fantastic. I’m so happy I got to hold the baton.” To mark the big occasion, CHAS hosted a Commonwealth Games themed sports day for the babies, children, young people and families who use the hospice. There was a range of activities on offer including wellie boot throwing, a space hopper race and a relay race. Sky Sports reporter Gerry McCulloch presented medals to all competitors.
Maria McGill, CHAS chief executive, said: “This has been a huge honour for CHAS. Everyone had a fantastic time and ensured the Baton had a fun visit.”
