The incident happened around 5pm on Tuesday evening (July 22) at a house on New Cordale Road in Renton.
The extent of the boy's injuries are not yet known, but police confirm he has been taken to Yorkhill Sick Childrens Hospital.
A spokesman for police in the area told the Reporter: " Family members made arrangements to have the dog destroyed. The injured boy is currently detained at hospital."
The tot - who has not been named - is now awaiting surgery.
The incident comes just a week after the Reporter told the story of a Staffy attacking a tiny Yorkshire Terrier, leaving the dog for dead. The Yorkie had to be put down as a result of the attack and a Sheriff ordered the Staffy be humanely destroyed also.
In a third incident, a tot in Kilmarnock also received hospital treatment after a similar attack.
We'll have more on this as we have it.
