Printed by Dumbarton company, JJR Print, the book is the brainchild of authors, John Beveridge and Leslie Brown who have been working on the booklet for a number of months.

The booklet contains a number of photos depicting the Balloch Steam Slipway rebuild and the Maid’s slipping in 2006.

It also shows the volunteers who have helped to refurbish the boat at work, as well as showing parts of the ship previously unseen by visitors.

Author John, who is also chairman of the Loch Lomond Steamship Company (LLSC), told us: “This is the biggest and best souvenir booklet we have produced. It is in full colour and now in digitised format.

“It is over ten years since Leslie and I produced the previous version, and there has been a huge improvement in the ship over that time.

“The new booklet records that and brings the Maid of the Loch story up to date.” The booklet helps to depict the history of the ship, which was built in 1953 and last sailed in 1981. The Maid has been tied up at Balloch ever since.

The Maid is now owned by the LLSC whose aim is to return the Maid to steam operation on Loch Lomond.

They also want to build a visitor facility at the pier which will make the Maid an all-year-round attraction. Funds are needed to get the Maid sailing again, and the public appeal now stands at around £140,000.

The new booklet is on sale on the Maid of the Loch and in the Balloch Steam Slipway.
