Millions of people across the world have taken part in the social media charity drive, which sees participants pour buckets of icy water over themselves all in the name of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) or Macmillan Cancer Support.
And the area’s councillors have been no different, with several of them taking part in the challenge over the past few weeks.
Councillors George Black, Jonathan McColl and Hazel Sorrell all posted videos on their Facebook pages of themselves taking the plunge.
Speaking last week, Cllr Black said he found the whole experience very “bracing”.
He told the Reporter: “Given my recent experience with the Standards Commission, I hope I’m not accused of misuse of council property by being drenched in water.
“I donated to both Motor Neurone Disease and Macmillan. Motor Neurone Disease is a poor relation amongst illnesses — it doesn’t get the best publicity. And the work that MacMillan does is absolutely fantastic.” At the time of writing, the craze has raised in the region of £50 million for charity.
