The victim was walking in College Street at around 5.5pm when a man grabbed her handbag, knocking her to the ground.
He then ran off empty handed in the direction of Dumbarton Central station.
The suspect is described as 5ft 2ins tall, slim with black spikey hair and he was wearing a dark shell suit top and light/faded baggy jeans.
