Repeat offender Junior Collins was appearing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court from custody last Tuesday.

He had been jailed for an offence heard at Dunoon Sheriff Court.

The 18-year-old previously admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner whilst aboard a train last December, threatening to stab rail staff and British Transport Police officers.

In February this year Collins also assaulted a man, headbutting him and repeatedly punching him on the head.

He was on bail for another matter whilst committing these offences.

Sheriff Ian Cameron heard last week how Collins had been remanded in connection with the Dunoon Sheriff Court trial since July 27.

After being found guilty there, he was sentenced to 80 days imprisonment — backdated to when he was first remanded — with a release date today (Tuesday).

Court also heard how Collins, previously of the Preparation for Life Centre in Alexandria, had completed just 48 out of the 220 hours unpaid work he was ordered to do, hearing he hadn’t been complying with the payback order. Sentence had previously been deferred at Dumbarton until an outcome had been determined in relation to his Dunoon case.

Sentencing, Sheriff Cameron asked Collins if he had enjoyed his experience of Polmont Young Offenders institution — the youth answered ‘no’.

Sheriff Cameron added: “You have completed 48 out of the 220 hours unpaid work. That leaves 172 hours to complete by November 27 this year. I could revoke that order today and send you back to Polmont.

“Do you want to go back to Polmont?” A bashful Collins again answered ‘no’.

He was then asked if he would complete the hours, to which he said ‘yes’.

The community payback order with an unpaid work commitment was continued, to be completed by November 27.

Sentence on the February assault was deferred for good behaviour and for a progress report on his community payback efforts.

Collins was told he would be released on bail after his release from custody today (Tuesday), however, would be expected to remain at his sister’s address in neighbouring Clydebank between the hours of 7pm and 7am.

He will return to court on November 4.
