On Wednesday Peter Renahan, 48, of Colquhoun Drive and David Kane, 29, of Argyll Street, both from Alexandria, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court.
The alleged attack is said to have taken place last June.
Mr Renahan is also alleged to have assaulted the same man — who the court heard has since passed away — the day before by slapping him.
Both men deny the allegations they face.
The matter was adjourned until October 28 with a trial planned for November 10.
