Zero Waste Scotland is reminding retailers and residents to get ready for the 5p charge, which applies to all single-us e carrier bags from Monday, October 20.

Retailers can visit Zero W aste Scotland’s website to find out more about how the charge will work, including a staff training video.

Iain Gulland, director, Zero Waste Scotland, said: “With two weeks to go until the carrier bag charge comes into effect, Zero Waste Scotland is reminding retailers and shoppers alike to be prepared.

“Retailers can visit our dedicated website for a host of useful tools and materials, and shoppers should remember to bring their re-usable bags when they pop to the shops after October 20.

“Single-use bags are a highly visible item of litter which blights our streets and seas — and the carrier bag charge is an important anti-litter measure which will help cut the number of single-use bags in circulation.” The information is available at www.carrierbagchargescotland.org.uk Shoppers can get more information on the charge and the types of bags included by visiting www.cleanerscotland.org
