It has also submitted a change of use application for land in Crosslet Road next to St Patrick’s Primary — also proposing it be used as a car park.

The work on the Garshake Road land would cost £4,000 and would provide up to 36 spaces for council employees, while 12 parking spaces are proposed for the Crosslet Road site.

The move comes in the wake of complaints by people in the Garshake area about the increase in cars parked in residential streets in and around the council HQ.

The need for the additional car parking space has been questioned as the council will be moving away from the Garshake road premises to new purpose-built premises at the Burgh Hall in Dumbarton town centre.

A West Dunbartonshire Council spokeswoman said: “Both of these proposed car parks will be created from materials provided during the construction of the Knowle Burn Flood alleviation scheme.

“The proposed car park at Garshake will be a temporary overspill car park to ease on-street parking on Garshake Road and the surrounding streets.

“It will remain in its existing unpaved condition and no additional costs will arise as a result of retaining this area as an overspill car park.

“The proposed car park at Crosslet Road will be an overspill car park for the adjacent schools and will alleviate congestion on Crosslet Road at school drop off and pick up times.

The proposed work will cost approximately £4,000, due to the installation of grasscrete paving to minimize the impact on the adjoining residential area.” “Both areas were previously grass verges maintained by the council. No charges for use will apply, in line with all other council car parks.”
