Maintenance work in the street began last month, with Scottish Gas Networks – the company undertaking the work on the stretch of road from the golf club to the old church – unable to provide an estimate of time for completion.

A spokeswoman for SGN said: “We are carrying out maintenance work, which began a few weeks ago, on apparatus belonging to us in Main Road, Cardross. It is not possible at this stage to be able to confirm when this work will be completed. There are two-way temporary traffic lights in place to allow us to carry out our works safely.” Another set of temporary lights appeared last week outside the newsagents on the A814. The spokewoman for SGN said these works were an emergency repair which had been reported by a member of the public who had smelt gas e_SEnD not part of the work expected to start in April.

The e_SSLqhigh riske_SSRq four-month project announced in December will see major work undertaken on the A814.
