Sohail Healthcare (Scotland) Ltd have expressed their intention to submit an application to open a new pharmacy at 8 Hillview Place, on the corner of Luss Road and Argyle Street.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, along with Sohail Healthcare, is undertaking a joint consultation to seek the views of people local the proposed premises, or those who might use the proposed new pharmacy.

Alexandria currently has two pharmacies in the area, and one in Balloch.

Cllr Jonathan McColl told the Reporter: “Most of our pharmacies are centralised in our town centre, which is good for the town centres and people shopping there, but not so good for those who can’t travel far out of their local communities.

“I think this is a good proposal, which will see a local service being provided in an area with a lot of elderly and disabled residents who I believe will welcome this pharmacy.” To take part in the consultation, please complete the pharmacy consultation questionnaire at: www.surveymonkey.com/s/SFZ2NKW The consultation process will last until Friday, October 16. No responses can be accepted after this date.

Sociallist councillor for Leven Jim Bollan said: “This will be a stand alone pharmacy to bring the service closer to residents in Tullichewan, Levenvale, Rosshead and North Alexandria.

“Far too many of our services are being centralised away from where people live and we need to reverse this trend.” Any new pharmacy that opens as of June last year now has to go to a full public consultation.

A spokesman from the NHSGGC told the Reporter: “Public consultations are part of national policy to establish the level of support of local residents for the application. The public notice directs members of the public to a structured questionnaire on the board’s website.

“Once the consultation period has been completed a consultation analysis report will be compiled.

“This will be considered by the board’s Pharmacy Practices Committee if the applicant chooses to continue with the application.” “The people of Alexandria shape the view of the NHS.”
