Rachelle Rhienne, from the bonnie banks, will premiere her music video at The Ferry in Glasgow on June 24 and perform the single with her band, along with a live set of new material.

The 21 year-old’s first single Captivity is set to burst onto the music scene and has been likened to some of the biggest stars in the industry.

Rachelle told the Reporter: “Singing is something I’ve done since I was five, my dad’s a music teacher and I’ve always been interested in music.

“I didn’t actually know I could write songs until I was 16, then I started collaborating with producers and other songwriters and it’s just went from there.

“I write mainly pop/country songs and I’m looking into travelling to the USA next year and trying to play at a country festival. That would be amazing.” Some of the songs she has written have recently caught the eye of producers and labels in the USA and Netherlands, and is now involved in collaborative writing projects with producers and writers in Jamaica, Netherlands, USA, London, Sweden, and Glasgow.

Rachelle said learning the piano has heavily influenced her music. She said: “I write in many different ways, mainly inspired by the piano, writing melodies using chords to trigger the sounds I like, then writing the lyrics to fit the melody.

“I’ve learned a lot from experience. I’m determined to be my own boss. You have to stay level headed and be assertive and confident. I’ve learned a lot.” The former Vale of Leven Academy pupil has performed at massive venues across the UK and Europe appearing at the Clyde Auditorium, SECC, The Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow; Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, The Armadillo, Glasgow; Pizza Express Jazz Club, London; King Tut’s Wah Hut, Glasgow; and the Hippodrome in London.

Lying Goliath music director Ian Golightly said: “Rachelle is a rare talent, a serious songwriter with a voice that is so distinctive. She can perform live anywhere and audiences are usually shocked to hear such a powerful voice come from a girl who looks so angelic.” Rachelle is taking nothing for granted and said she’s determined to make it: “I’m lucky to have such good support from my parents. From the moment I told them this is what I wanted to do they backed me all the way. The single and the music video are exactly what I wanted.” Captivity will be available on iTunes and the video will be on Youtube on June 24.
