Silverton and Overtoun and Dumbarton East and Central Community Councils unveiled the bench in Sheila’s beloved Posties Park in a small ceremony dedicated to the campaigner.

Sheila was the Secretary of Dumbarton East and Central Community Council for several years, and was active in several campaigns, and planning applications. She was well known to many local people, in particular dog walkers, and had established relationships with Council officers and councillors.

She started the Save Posties Park Campaign over two years ago, with the assistance of many residents concerned at the loss of public open green space.

Sadly, Sheila passed away before the campaign was won, and it was decided to honour her memory, and that of her beloved dog Poppy, with a park bench to be situated in one of her favourite dog walking places in Posties.

The bench was ordered from West Dunbartonshire Council’s Greenspace department, and funds were raised by the community for the erection of the bench and maintenance by the Council.

The unveiling was attended by community council leaders, Rose Harvie and Dorothy Heron aswell as Sheila’s friends and family.

The message reads: “In memory of Sheila Urquart, for her tireless work in the community.”
