A group of young girls were walking together when they were approached by a black 4x4 type car with tinted windows.

When the girls refused to engage with the driver, and walked off, the car followed them down the street until the girls ran away.

Inspector Andy McGarvey from Dumbarton Police Office said: "Around 1800 hours on Friday 24 July 2015, police received a report about a man who had stopped his car to talk to children playing in the street in Westcliff, Dumbarton.

"At this time, it would appear that there was nothing said that could be deemed to be criminal in nature, however, police are keen to speak to the driver of the vehicle or any person with information in relation to this incident.

"There is nothing at this time to suggest a risk to children in the area. There have been no reports of any other similar incidents in the area.

"Police Scotland takes incidents of this nature extremely seriously and will fully investigate them. If you wish to report a crime, please do not use social media to do so as it may contribute to unnecessary public concern. Please speak directly to police via the 101 number."
