Our Lady and St Patrick’s pupils Hannah King and Sophie Moohan, acheived As in Advanced Higher Art and Design and have now been selected by examiners to show their work at this year’s Advanced Higher Exhibition.

The prestigious event showcases a selection of the best work at Advanced Higher level from across Scotland and takes place at Scotland Street School in Glasgow in December.

The pair follow in the footsteps of several previous OLSP students, including most recently Kirsten McLuskey and Abbie McGunnigle.

Sophie told the Reporter: “I am delighted with the marks I received for my Advance Higher Art and Design folio.

“It makes the all hard work not to mention the stress, all worth it! The experience of sixth year art is one that I am proud to have been a part of, the freedom which the course offers gave me the experience of balancing my work more independently.

“Having my work picked for an exhibition felt extremely weird at first because all you really think about when doing your folio is the end mark you’ll receive but it also makes me feel very grateful that the Scottish Qualifications Authority think my work is good enough and it certainly makes the experience of Advanced Art all the more worth it.” Hannah added: “I felt that I accomplished a lot more than I had initially hoped to and I am over the moon with the final results but wouldn’t have managed it without the help of the phenomenal art department.” The school’s art department has more reasons to celebrate as all seven students in the advanced higher class scored highly, with six As and one B.

Pupils Alison Black, Ciara McLaughlin, and Emma Hughes have been accepted in to Edinburgh College of Art to study Fashion, Interior Design and History of Art respectively.

The other top scorers were Niamh Byrne and Carly McLaughlin.

Class teacher Fiona McInnes said: “We’re absolutely delighted and really proud of all seven girls. We’ve generally got a quite a successful art department – last year everyone got As and this year we had six As and one B. To have continuous representation at the exibition is an excellent achievement and it just shows how hard the pupils have worked and their dedication and commitment to the project.

“The whole art department is thrilled to bits with the work produced year on year by the pupils that have passed through the school and particularly with these girls. We want to wish them every success in the future.”
