It's a hit television show that has captured the imaginations of fans worldwide, and now Outlander has been unveiled as the inspiration behind an unusual new creation.

The Chocolate Tree, an Edinburgh chocolatier, has revealed that the time-travelling US show set in Jacobean Scotland inspired their latest work, a full traditional Highland dress made almost entirely of chocolate.

The outfit, which has been made by Alastair and Friederike Gower, includes a kilt, boots, socks, hat, feathers, broach, sporran, sword and shirt buttons.

It is made from 12kgs of dark chocolate and took two months to complete.

The traditional Scottish dress was entered into last week's Chocolate Show, a highlight of the annual Chocolate Week celebrations in London which included a fashion showcase.

The Chocolate Tree, which has a boutique store and cafe in Edinburgh, was awarded Best Dessert Outlet in Scotland at The Food Awards Scotland earlier this year.

It also won bronze in the World finals of the International Chocolate Awards for its Venezuela Porcelana 85 per cent chocolate bar.

Outlander, which is shot in Cumbernauld, Fife, Perthshire and South Queensferry, is based on Diana Gabaldan’s novels.

It stars Scots actor Sam Heughan and Catriona Balfe.
