A TAXI driver has driven away with a top slimming title after shedding more than five stone in weight.

Slimline Andy Cameron has picked up the prestigious title of Slimming World's “Mr Sleek 2016” for Alexandria.

Andy has lost a fantastic 5 stone 7lbs in only 12 months.

And this week he revealed his motivation for shedding the pounds.

Andy, 26, from Balloch, told The Reporter: "I joined Slimming World in November 2015 to encourage and support my wife, Charlene, to lose weight due to her gaining weight during her treatment for breast cancer.

"As you can imagine our world was torn apart by this and I turned to food for comfort.

"Also, being a taxi driver, I usually ate the wrong things.

"I bought fast food and take-aways every day as it was easier to eat on the go as my hours are unsociable.

"I was so apprehensive going along to the group at St Martin’s Church Hall, Renton, that first Tuesday morning.

"I thought slimming clubs were for women, but how wrong was I?

"There were quite a few men at the group too.

"I was so glad we were there together, though, as it made it easier eating the same meals."

Andy revealed that some modest changes to his diet worked wonders, as he explained: "Christine Warren, our consultant, explained the Extra Easy eating plan and I couldn’t believe how much food I would be able to eat without weighing or measuring.

"I lost a whopping 10 lbs in the first week and I couldn’t believe how easy it was1

"My favourite meal is a chicken curry with rice, tuna pasta and fry-ups, just a healthier version!

"We all eat the same meals, even our little girl Aimee.

"I also enjoy Slimming World’s ready-made meals. They are big man-sized portions and I enjoy taking them when I’m on night shifts as I can pop home and have a decent meal in minutes.

"When I joined Slimming World I was 20st 2lbs and my 40 inch trousers were getting too uncomfortable to wear.

"Now I’ve lost 5st 7lbs and wear 34 inch trousers.

"I feel great about myself now and have much more energy.

"I recently walked the West Highland Way with five friends and we raised over £1,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

"We just can’t believe how great we both feel, look and are leading a healthier lifestyle.

"A few months ago we were at a wedding and it was great to get so many compliments from friends and family.

"I am really looking forward to the festive season and hope Santa gets me lots of new clothes!"

Christine, who has been a consultant for nearly 23 years, hopes Andy will inspire other men in the area.

She added: "Andy’s ready to celebrate the party season. I am so proud of him."

Christine has groups every Tuesday and Wednesday, morning and evening, at St Martin’s Church Hall, Main Street, Renton.
