A TEAM of pupils from Vale of Leven Academy put their culinary and organisational skills to the test in a competition which culminated in a dinner event at the Beardmore Hotel in Clydebank on Thursday - and emerged double winners.

The Vale team won the prize for the best dessert, which they are pictured with, and also came out on top as overall winners of the competition.

The competition, now in its third year, aims to encourage children to consider a career in the hospitality and catering industry and this year the theme was based on a ‘Music Awards Ceremony’.

They were competing against Clydebank High School, St Columba’s High School, St Andrews High School and Braidfield High School.

The team, made up of six third year pupils, was set clear objectives and challenges, and was be expected to plan a dinner using the theme given.

In addition they had to sell tickets for the event and create a dessert which was specially recreated by the hotel’s chef for the awards dinner.

During the preparation for the competition the pupils have received help from the Beardmore and have had additional hints and tips from competition co-ordinator, Lorraine Brown, and Paul Murray, Senior Sous Chef at the hotel.
