EIGHT community organisations benefitted from funding totalling £160,079 in the last financial year from the Dumbarton Common Good Fund, a report has revealed.

The figures were revealed during a meeting of the West Dunbartonshire Council Corporate Services committee last Wednesday in Clydebank Town Hall.

The report stated: "The purpose of this report is to provide members with an update as to voluntary grants approved by WDCVS (West Dunbartonshire Community and Volunteering Services) in 2016/17 in respect of Community Chest, Playscheme, Cultural, and Social Transport Support Funding Grants."

The report also provides information on the position regarding the Trust Funds held by the Council, the Dumbarton Common Good Fund and the Provost's Fund.

Alcoholics Anonymous received £8,378 for rent and running costs from the Dumbarton Common Good Fund, while Alternatives, a a community based drug project, received £5000 to cover their rental costs.

In addition the Bellsmyre Digital Project received £38,101 for their running costs and equipment and the Bellsmyre Schools Out project bagged £6,000 for running costs.

Others to benefit included the Dumbarton Senior Citizens who received £2,000 for outings and events, while Rockvale Rebound (talking newspaper) bagged £10,000 to cover their rental costs.

A whopping £50,000 award was made to the Scottish Maritime Museum who aid their running costs and the West Dunbartonshire Citizen's Advice Bureau also received £40,000 towards their running costs.

In terms of the Provost Fund awards for the last financial year the following organisations benefitted: The Kiltwalk (£100), Mummers Theatre Group (£600), Kilpatrick School Fund (£100), Duntocher West Church (£250), Oor Art Group (£240), Clydebank Men's Shed (£150), Goldenhill PS Parent Council (£97.80), Armed Forces Day (£200), St Joseph's Primary School Parent Council (£200), Kilbowie Primary School (£100), Mr Peter Crowe (£100), Mr & Mrs McGowan (£100), Kathleen Stewart (£100), Concord User Group (£200), Dalmuir Barclay Church (£100), CDC Allstars (£181.10), Scott Avenue Community Garden (£181.10).

The Provosts Fund was established in 1953 as the Burgh of Clydebank Provost Fund and in November 1998 it was determined that the Fund may be used to cover the whole of West Dunbartonshire.

The report adds: "Payment of voluntary grants contributes to improvements in life changes for children and young people, care for elderly and the wellbeing of communities."
