AN Alexandria man, found in possession of a controlled drug has been told he has to address his addiction issues by a sheriff.
Peter Bates, 32, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday for sentencing after pleading guilty to being in possession of cannabis with intent to supply.
The court heard that on October 19, 2016, at Allan Crescent police executed a warrant and gained entry through an unlocked door. Bates was shown the warrant and understood. In the kitchen police found a bag with material behind the kick plate of the washing machine. Bates was taken to Clydebank Police Station.
The substance was examined and tested positive for cannabis, he was cautioned and charged.
the five wraps of cannabis totalled 126g and had a value of £350.
Bates' defence solicitor Judith Reid, said: "Cannabis isn't a drug with which he has a problem. He is using prescribed and non prescribed valium. He needs assistance. His mental health is unstable.
"He resides with his partner of some time in a family home, could you deal with him in a way which offers stability to him and his family?"
Sheriff John Hamilton, addressed Bates, saying: "You need to address your addiction issues and I suggest you take the opportunity to get help."
Bates, of Allan Crescent, was placed under supervision for 18 months and a restriction of liberty order from 7pm-7am for six months.
