Graffiti artists to tag station
TWO young graffiti artists are set to transform a dull wall outside Renton train station into a bright mural depicting a scene from Scottish history.
The duo, who are known by their graffiti tagging names 'Bulgarian' and 'Fabian', will create an artwork on the old wall that greets train passengers as they arrive, standing two metres high and 25 metres long.
The station was recently taken over by history enthusiasts, the Strathleven Artizans, who turned it into a Robert the Bruce Heritage Centre.
It now celebrates Renton's links with Bruce, displaying information, painting and relics from his life and the time he spent living there.
The well known graffiti artists - whose past projects include extensive murals inside the Clyde Bar, Helensburgh - have taken the project on to help give the centre a modern twist.
Fabian, from Bonhill, said: "The reason we are so excited about this project is because it's for the community, and that's what we are all about.
"Through our own work we already have links with kids in the area and this is a really good way to get them interested in their own history.
"I have learned so much about the area and its history through this, I didn't know any of it before because it wasn't taught it in school, but people really need to know this stuff, it really gives you a sense of community pride."
Bulgarian, from Craigendoran in Helensburgh, added: "I was waiting on a train at Renton one day and went into the Heritage Centre to have a look about.
"I saw the wall and it just looked so dull, I realised it would be a great location for us to showcase our work and for the centre to display what they had to offer too.
"I contacted them straight away and they really liked the idea of combining the traditional heritage aspect with our modern style."
