SCENE: Police guard the van following the robbery in Mitchell Way
A DAD has been cleared of carrying out an armed robbery in Alexandria along with his son.
Edward Bagan, 46, was accused of carrying out a raid outside the Royal Bank of Scotland in the Vale just two days before Christmas.
After deliberating for three hours the jury found the charge against Mr Bagan not proven.
Bagan's son Stephen Gunn , 34, is already serving six years for the robbery. In April last year he pleaded guilty to taking part in the raid.
But his father has always protested his innocence claiming that it was just coincidence that he came along in a taxi just as his son was running away after the robbery.
He said that all he did was stop to give his son a lift in the cab. Minutes later the taxi was stopped by police.
Gunn refused to name his accomplice, but denied it was his father.
Gunn and an accomplice - armed with knives and wearing masks- ran at security guard Ian Boyd, 50, as he delivered the cash to the Royal Bank of Scotland in Mitchell Street, Alexandria, on December 23 2010.
They threatened him and grabbed the money box containing £15,000 which he dropped and ran to the safety of his van where he pressed the panic alarm.
Judge Lord Glennie told Mr Bagan, from Carmona Drive, Haldane, at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday: "In light of the jury's verdict you are free to leave the court."
