In May, we told you about a long-standing issue at the busy route, where felled trees have been left to pile up by the side of the road.

The issue is particularly bad along the large stretch of the road from the tip at Dalmoak to Carberry’s Metals Ltd, the scrap yard.

There have been concerns raised by residents and drivers the trees could fall onto the road into the path of an oncoming car or bus.

It was Brian Ronald, of West Dunbartonshire Community Projects (WDCP), who first drew our attention to the problem and speaking last week, he says there has been little progress made in the past two months.

Mr Ronald told the Reporter: “I was delighted to see the focus on the issue in the Reporter.

“However, I’m very disappointed the council think it’s acceptable to wait for a response from the landlords before making a decision — surely there should be more they can do about it.

“There’s real safety issues here, I don’t want to see any accident happen, but it seems for something to get done, one will have to happen.

“I’m grateful to all the support I’ve had from local councillors but there’s only so much they can do.

“When I first raised the issue with the council, officers had admitted to me this had been an issue they were aware of a number of years ago, so why is it still dragging along?” West Dunbartonshire Council had previously told the Reporter a survey would be carried out by officers and the landowners would be contacted to request a meeting.

Brian added: “Why can’t the council just shut the road off, if it’s carefully planned, for half an hour or an hour and send a team out to pick up the debris.

“That wouldn’t necessarily solve the issue, but it would be a big start.

“Apart from parking the car up and putting my own life at risk by picking it up I don’t know what to do.” A spokeswoman for West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) confirmed the landowners have still to respond to their initial request for a meeting. She said: “As previously stated this land is not owned by West Dunbartonshire Council.

“In light of the concerns raised we have contacted the landowner and are awaiting a response.”
