More than £90,000 of Scottish Government cash will help boost careers support at Vale of Leven Academy.

The £91,407 grant is part of £5.8million the government is investing in a bid to cut youth unemployment by 40 per cent by 2021.

Figures released last month showed youth employment had risen by 25,000 in a year to 363,000 - its highest level in a decade.

A West Dunbartonshire Council spokeswoman said: “The council is delighted to receive this additional funding which will enhance our support to our young people so they are fully prepared from an early stage to take their next step towards their chosen careers whether that it through further or higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

“We’ll be working in partnership with Skills Development Scotland to extend the careers support currently offered to pupils at Vale of Leven Academy. The detail of the project is still being developed, and it is intended that hundreds of pupils from P7 through to S6 would benefit from this additional guidance on their future career options.”
