The Clan Colquhoun International Society (CCIS) was established last year and in July will gather in Luss – their ancestral homeland – for a five-day programme of clan history, genealogy and cultural events.

Led by hereditary chieftain, Sir Malcolm Colquhoun, the CCIS brings together clansmen and women from across the globe, with members from North and South America, South Africa and Australasia set to descend onto the Bonnie Banks for the event.

Sir Malcolm said: “We are thrilled to be announcing the inaugural gathering. We hope to bring many of our members to Scotland for this very special occasion, particularly as 2014 is the Year of Homecoming and a year when Scotland plays host to two of the world’s biggest sporting events, the Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup.

“This will be a truly unique opportunity for overseas visitors and locals alike to learn about the rich history of the Colquhouns whilst helping us raise funds for the Clan Museum, potentially a great tourism asset to Luss and Loch Lomond.” Announced as Tartan Week was celebrated in New York, the international society of the ancient clan will host the programme in an attempt to ensure a base for its history, with all proceeds going towards the creation of a permanent Clan Colquhoun museum in Luss.

Septs of the Clan Colquhoun include Cowan, Calhoon, Kilpatrick, Kirkpatrick and MacLintock.

The gathering will take place from Wednesday, July 2 to Sunday, July 6 and will be open to the public, with prices and tickets released soon.

Programme highlights include a seminar of the clan history by historian, James Pearson, a guided tour from Luss to Stirling Castle, reliving the infamous Bluidy Sarks incident of 1602 when the Colquhouns clashed with the Clan MacGregor, and personal tours of Rossdhu House.
