Balquidder House is built on the site of the old Torpedo factory on Heather Avenue.

The facility was officially opened to residents last week.

The care home has 65 beds – including a 20-bed specialist dementia unit, a 25-bed nursing section, and two 10-bed units.

When construction started the home was due to open in May but was later pushed back several months.

Fairfield Care Scotland run the private home and had more than 550 applications for around 80 staff posts, ranging from care and domestic staff to administration and maintenance employees.

Joan McGregor, director at Fairfield Care Scotland, manages the business along with her husband Colin.

She told the Reporter: “I am delighted that the new homes is now open.

“If I do say so myself it looks magnificent myself and Colin are delighted with the end result.” Eva McKellar, secretary of Age Concern Vale of Leven, spoke to the Reporter when the home was first approved.

She said: “I think that’s really great for the people of Alexandria, having it in the town, to save the locals having to leave the district.

“I think when you look at what happened at Castle Glen in Dumbarton, a lot of those people had to get moved out of the area into Clydebank, it’s important to keep people in the area, not just for their families and themselves.”
