Police Scotland is holding a series of information sessions throughout West Dunbartonshire in the next few weeks – including an event in Dumbarton this weekend.

Police officers need to be 18 (but can apply from age 17 and a half), have a full UK driving licence, and be physically and mentally able to undertake police duties.

Applicants also need to be either a British citizen, EU/EEA national, Commonwealth citizen, or foreign national with indefinite leave to remain in the UK who has been resident in the UK for the previous three years.

There is no minimum height restriction and having tattoos does not automatically exclude applicants. Although there is an eyesight requirement, some officers do wear glasses.

Those who make it through the selection process will be posted to one of their divisions of their choice.

Inspector Neil Smith, of Dumbarton Police Station, told the Reporter: “Argyll and West Dunbartonshire Police are holding Insight sessions for anyone interested in pursuing a career as a police officer or who wants to find out more about volunteering to become a special constable.

“If you are thinking of applying or just wish to find out more information these are well worth attending.” The Dumbarton session takes palce at Dumbarton Police Office at 11am on Saturday, September 26.

Among the other sessions, one is being held at Helensburgh Police Office at the same time on Saturday October 10.

More information about being a police officer or Special Constable can be found on the recruitment section of the Police Scotland website at www.scotland.police.uk/recruitment/police-officers.
