West Dunbartonshire Council has joined others across the UK and Europe to oppose a controversial trade deal.
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) is a proposed free trade deal between the EU and US.
Independent councillor George Black warned members at the full council meeting on Wednesday it would hit public health, the NHS, food safety, jobs and banking.
Councillor Jim Bollan said it would ‘decimate public services’.
Leader of the opposition SNP councillor Jonathan McColl said everyone agreed that the deal as it stands was an ‘abomination’ but said it was not worth ‘pulling the plug yet’ and tried to amend Cllr Black’s call to oppose the deal which provoked concern over the lack of agreement.
Cllr Black’s motion was voted through by seven votes to five.
